COLCHESTER, Vt. – OneCare Vermont (OneCare) has been recognized by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a 501(c)(3) organization operated for non-profit purposes.
OneCare filed an application with the IRS seeking 501(c)(3) status, in recognition of its commitment to supporting Vermont’s health care delivery and payment reform efforts. This designation by the IRS that OneCare and its provider partners are acting in furtherance of non-profit purposes is a major milestone for the organization, and a testament to the organization’s commitment to transparency and value based reform efforts.
Vicki Loner, RN.C, OneCare CEO, said, “OneCare has always operated in the spirit of a non-profit organization in alignment with its non-profit founders and many of its participating organizations. We are pleased that our status will accurately reflect our operations and our commitments to the system changes that are necessary to achieve better health outcomes for Vermonters.”
OneCare Vermont meets the charitable purposes of a 501(c)(3) by lessening the government’s burden, specifically through its partnership in the All-Payer Accountable Care Organization Model (APM), and by the promotion of health through transition to value-based care, improved primary care delivery supports, health care innovation, and primary prevention programs.
OneCare Board Chair John Brumsted, M.D. said, “This is a recognition of OneCare’s status as a provider-led organization in service to the people of Vermont. Achieving 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS affirms our commitment to advance the important work of supporting the way health care is delivered and reimbursed in our state.”
This designation, along with OneCare’s strategic planning effort and the Scott Administration’s APM Implementation Improvement Plan create a focused, shared purpose with OneCare’s provider partners to deliver on the goals of payment and delivery reform.
