FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 05, 2023

Colchester, Vt., – OneCare Vermont (OneCare) presented the Accountable Care Organization’s (ACOs) updated annual 2023 budget to the Green Mountain Care Board today. The budget reflects a two percent reduction in OneCare administrative costs and increased value to Vermont’s health care system by helping providers increase coordination and accountability and increasing investments in primary care and value-based care.

“Our efforts to unify a fragmented health care system, measure and improve quality, and transition to value-based care have all improved Vermont’s health care system,” Vicki Loner, CEO of OneCare said. “There are over 5,000 providers in OneCare that are delivering higher quality care and more savings to over 200,000 Vermonters. Since 2018, OneCare has converted over $1 billion of existing health care dollars to value-based care, realized millions in health care savings, and invested over one hundred million dollars in primary care.”

OneCare doesn’t provide health care; it makes the health care system better. It does this through supporting providers, increasing access to preventative care and paying for value and health outcomes rather than various services, such as tests and operations.

The 2023 budget will further improve Vermont’s health care system through increased investment in value-based care, prevention and care coordination. The 2023 budget will help bring Vermont further towards a system of value-based care by doubling the risks/rewards for providers for health outcomes rather than the number of various services performed. The 2023 budget will also deepen engagement in care coordination and prevention efforts through further investment in the Advancing Population Health Model and further investment in primary care.
