For Immediate Release Publication Date: March 16, 2022

Colchester, Vt. – The OneCare Vermont board of managers has elected Anya Rader Wallack, PhD to serve as chair and Tom Huebner to serve as vice chair beginning in May and April respectively. Wallack succeeds John Brumsted, M.D. who will step down as board chair at the April meeting. Huebner, a current board member, will fill a newly formalized vice chair role.

“OneCare is a central and important component of efforts to improve the quality and affordability of health care in Vermont,” Wallack said. “I am honored and excited to be part of the next phase of the organization’s development, as we continue to support health care providers in improving performance and strengthening value-based payment models.” Wallack is senior vice president for strategic communications for the University of Vermont Health Network. Immediately prior to joining the Network she was a professor in Brown University’s School of Public Health.

Previously she served in Rhode Island as the director of the state’s Health Insurance Exchange, Medicaid Director and acting secretary of Health and Human Services. In Vermont, she served as the first chair of the Green Mountain Care Board, special assistant for health policy to Governor Shumlin, and deputy chief of staff and special assistant for health policy to Governor Dean.

“We have made good strides in provider led reform efforts on a statewide level and I am excited to be part of the continued evolution in care and payment reform efforts,” Huebner said. Huebner is the former president of Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he worked for 28 years. Huebner was on the BlueCross BlueShield of Vermont board of directors for 24 years, and is now on the boards of the Federally Qualified Health Center in Rutland, the Vermont Nurses Association in Rutland, and the Brattleboro Retreat.

“We are grateful to Dr. Brumsted for his steady leadership,” said Vicki Loner, RN.C, MHCDS, OneCare CEO. Loner continued, “OneCare is well represented and informed by the breadth of experience our board members bring to some of the most pressing issues in health care delivery. Anya and Tom bring a deep knowledge of health systems and policy reform and are committed to working toward improved health and well-being of Vermonters and our communities.”
