The Building Strong Families clinic provides essential services such as checkups, preventive healthcare, and monitoring of developmental milestones for young children within immigrant families who are patients of UVM Medical Center Children’s Primary Care Practice.
Since October 2019, the clinic has completed 76 pediatric appointments for children between 0-5 years of age. The clinic was closed for group visits due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, but they have continued to provide age-appropriate well child care and immunizations both at another location and through telehealth. Families served by the clinic are screened for and linked to additional COVID-19 stressors such as unemployment, financial, housing/food insecurity, need for masks, COVID-19 education, and family stress. UVMMC-trained Family Strengthening Workers continue to perform outreach and have been collecting food, supplies, disinfectants, masks, clothes and diapers to be delivered to clinic families.
The Building Strong Families clinic was a recipient of OneCare Vermont’s ACO Innovation Fund grant program.
